Sexual Trauma and EMDR

Sexual Trauma

Would you like to be living a different life?

Has past trauma prevented you from achieving your goals?

Do you struggle with connecting intimately with your partner as a result of past trauma?

Sexual Trauma can be defined in a variety of ways and often has a lasting effect on one’s life. In fact, trauma is not defined by the event, but rather on how the event has impacted you. After trauma has occurred people go through life feeling and acting differently, believing that their world is different. One of the negative effects of trauma is to have negative thoughts about oneself including being worthless, not safe, or not having control. You do not have to continue to live like this, there is a an effective and established treatment available which can change your life.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence based psychotherapy for trauma which has been in practice since the 1990’s. During EMDR, bilateral stimulation (eye movement) is paired with a memory to reduce disturbance and reprocess the memory. After EMDR has been completed on a certain memory, the result is to feel less emotion around that memory which in turn allows for you to move on with life in a more peaceful, more productive manner. Here is a short video which best describes how EMDR works.

EMDR is very powerful in reducing trauma effects; but also works on fears, phobias, sleep issues, flashbacks and self esteem issues. EMDR is an effective and established treatment that is implemented world wide. To learn more about EMDR please visit the EMDRIA website to learn more about this treatment.
